One
of the most iconic and influential driving and racing games of all time is Need
for Speed. Going fast and breaking the law was the name of the game, and it
still is with this brand new reboot.
Initially
released in 1994 for the 3DO, Need for Speed quickly became the quintessential
car game. The point of the game is to build up a reputation among drivers. This
can be accomplished in 5 different ways: your speed, style, build, crew, and
your outlaw.
Speed
is fairly straightforward - how fast do you drive? If you go everywhere at 40
MPH, you probably won’t get much of a reputation. However, if you drive around
at 110 MPH, you’ll probably get noticed by most drivers.
Style
is a little bit more complicated. You have to be a fancy driver to earn style
points. If all you do is go in a straight line, people won’t be so impressed.
But if you drift around a corner and zip between traffic, you’ll be sure to
attract plenty of attention.
Build
is the biggest part of the game. It’s all about having a souped up vehicle. If
your car doesn’t have an upgraded engine, you won’t be able to get as many
points for speed as you normally would be able to.
Likewise,
if your tires aren’t upgraded, they might not be able to withstand all the
abuse for style points, and might even fail. Now you come to crew. Your crew is
how many friends you ride with.
If
you go around doing all of these tricks in a beast of a machine really fast,
but solo, it won’t earn the maximum amount of points as it would if you had
friends in the car. The more friends you have riding with you, the better it
is.
The
final piece of reputation is outlaw. You can’t possibly drive this fast and
dangerous without a little unwanted attention from the police. Luckily, this
attention is good for drivers like you, because while you’ll be seen as
infamous in the eyes of society, drivers like you will take more notice of what
you do.
So
don’t be afraid to go on a few high-octane police chases. You’ll have plenty of
road to drive on thanks to the new and improved Frostbite game engine. Not only
will this game look stunning, but it will also have twice as many drivable
roads than the previous game, Need for Speed Rivals.
You
can drive all night and day and still find new places to show off. If you
preorder, you’ll get some special features that help improve your build. Only
through this offer can you get this ‘Styling’ sticker, a new spoiler for the
back, new rims, and a splitter. You can also choose to buy the deluxe edition,
which gives you a 10% discount on all in game items and a unique VIP icon.
